I have not used Notes R6 extensively but based on my understanding of the Notes R4 - R5 code, the mail content area is a Notes Rich Text field, which is implemented internally to Notes. It's not a Windows control therefore will not be responsive to code that hooks into Windows controls. Notes is localized for many countries,including, I think, Chinese, although the Notes R6 Beta is probably US-English only. I suggest you experiment with a copy of Notes R5 with Chinese localization. If you need technical details on how localized versions of Notes handle alternate keyboard input methods, let me know and I'll see what I can dig up. wineconsole regression on April 4

Wineconsole regressed between 10pm April 3 and 10pm April 4 (GMT). The IDA Pro disassembler (idaw.exe, available from http://www.datarescue.be/downloadfreeware.htm) fails due to changes on this date. This is a console mode program with turbo pascal style windows, for example windows have a little green square as a close box. History: Jan 1 CVS : program runs with good sized font, however bitmaps like the little green square show up as odd characters. Apr 3 CVS : program runs with tiny font, bitmaps are displayed correctly. > Apr 4 CVS : window comes up, disappears, wine exits without an error. (Normal behaviour: window comes up, is resized, initial screen is drawn.) Thus the bug is: wine exits immediately after bringing up the window (but before drawing anything in it). This seems to be due to changes in xfont.c. I offer here a choice of two patches that "fix" this. Surely neither of them is getting to the root cause of the problem. Either works, but with patch 2, the text comes up in a tiny font like with Apr 3 CVS, with patch 1 it comes up in a normal font (but no little bitmaps, like Jan 1 CVS). All the best, Duncan. Correct approach to deploy Wine applications

I'm currently working on bug 585 - "wine installation process should install and configure wine applications". The first part of the work is done - wine applications, like regedit are installed by Wine build process. I wanted to ask you about correct approach to place these applications to deploy them. I think that applications can be called with full path, with or without extention, names in different cases. So I'm going to change wineinstall process to create symbolic links in c:/windows/system32 e.g. for regedit: regedit -> /usr/local/bin/wine regedit.so -> /usr/local/bin/regedit.so regedit.exe -> /usr/local/bin/wine regedit.exe.so -> /usr/local/bin/regedit.so This fixes problems with full path and with using or not using file extention, but how to handle case-insensitivity? Regedit can be called as REGEDIT, RegEdit, Regedit, regedit. Now multiply this on number of extentions exe, EXE. This is without considering really fancy cases, like "ReGeDiT". known x11drv issue?

hullo everybody, i'm new to the wine-devel list, but i was wondering if this: http://chris.luethy.net/wine/image.jpg was a known issue. Whenever you drag around flat-edged windows (I'm not sure what the offical name is in Win32), like the type you see in Winamp's preferences or any non-resizeable window (thus, the flat edge window) it leaves behind the white outline of that window (see link above). I was wondering if anybody is currently working to resolve this issue, or perhaps this is an issue in my configuration. Any hints? -- Chris Thielen chris(a)luethy.net

menu behaviour on window losing focus

Hi! Now that my patch to fix the alt behaviour made to the cvs (altough somewhat cleaned up by Alexandre :), I'm going on to fix what remained here to fix :) The problem is that when you activate the menu (by pressing ALT), and then the window loses focus, the menu stays active. And when you return to your window the menu still has focus. This is not right for two reasons: 1) This is not the windows behaviour - on windows when the window loses focus the menu is deactivated. I have tested this. The same is the behaviour with kde. 2) When you switch beetween windows by Alt+TAB sometimes the menu stays active. It does not happen so frequently, but it is annoying. So I would like to deactivate the menu when the window loses focus. Can somebody please point me to the point in code where I should put my deactivation (a code which is called on window deactivation), and also to the function by which I can deactivate the menu. If nobody answers, I will try to find these myself, but I have thought, that maybe there is somebody who can answer these questions in no time. Thanks in advance Zsolt Rizsanyi

DrawIconEx (...DI_IMAGE)

Can anyone who understands the icon, bit stretch etc code help me out here? Our code calls DrawIconEx to draw an icon in the status bar, specifying DI_IMAGE rather than DI_NORMAL. On Windows the black pixels are drawn but on WINE they aren't. I have confirmed that it is the absence of the DI_MASK that results in this difference but I am not sure why. Is it obvious to someone more knowledgeable? Bill

I don't know if this will cause any problems for other platforms but it works here. Of course so did my last dirty hack so can someone point out a better way? According to http://www.delorie.com/djgpp/doc/libc/libc_95.html if the system has ftruncate it just calls it. If this isnt cool then would the configure check work here to #define ftruncate chsize? statusbar question

I am about to have a go at tidying up a little problem with the statusbar and our application and I want to check as to what we really know and what we are currently guessing. Our application has a sunken owner-drawn part in the status bar, in which we draw multiple icons. Under WINE the part is not sunken (and the icons are poorly rendered - a separate issue) but the background colour is OK. I see that currently the code for statusbar is: For all parts If owner drawn then let the owner draw it else fill the background if ownerdrawn then let the owner draw it (legacy code) else draw the border if there is an icon then draw it draw the text. fi fi end for Can anyone justify this order as opposed to e.g. draw the background, draw the border, then if owner drawn let the owner draw the rest, otherwise draw the icon and text? It seems to me that the latter is more consistant with what I see but I don't want to break a load of stuff. Bill

MAX_PATH mess fix

It seems mingw tries to include stdlib.h after windef.h in the build process and that was the result of the warnings/error. By making this change I don't have to change any of the other headers That depend on MAX_PATH (winnls,wingdi) by adding stdlib.h in them. I don't know if its right by the wine project standards but now I can compile 90% of the wine dll sources without warrnings/errors from stupid MAX_PATH. Java and Wine Interoperability on Solaris

Hi all, I've got an interesting problem on my hands - I need to invoke some winelib compiled win32 code from java (though jni) on a sparc-solaris box. Unfortunately I'm running into problems with the libthread.so library. If I create the JVM (which involves loading libthread.so) before wine, I get a segfault in the wine process_init function (during a call to getcwd that works its way down into libthread). If I instead initialize wine first, and then dlopen libthread.so and try to create the JVM, I get a segfault in the JVM code, in a function who's name includes the word thread (if that actually means anything). I've seen a few indications on the mailing list and in the docs that wine is not compatible with pthreads, but I haven't found a concrete discussion that gets into a lot of details - if anyone knows of a document somewhere that talks about this, I'd love to see it. I notice that there is a pthread.c file in scheduler, that seems to implement part of the pthreads api in terms of wine threads for glibc. Does anyone know if it would be possible to get something similar working on solaris? Does anyone have any other suggestions on how I might be able to make this work? Thanks! Warren

Question - I modified WCMD to support the 'TITLE' command which passed it through to SetConsoleTitle(A), and a simple program which subsequently calls GetConsoleTitle shows that the new value is in effect, but I dont see any window title for the WCMD shell. Is this a limitation of the console handling? (I tried with Managed='Y' and with no Managed line in my config file and the result was the same) Should I submit the patch to support the title command even though it will not be displayed currently? I know the patch works but I feel it is just masking a compatibility problem between two of the wine internal routines. Hi again, Another bug I have spotted can be demonstrated clearly by dir /s /w on wcmd on a small set of directories a couple of times (once my patch for /w is on). The first time it writes to the screen without scrolling and all is ok, the second time as it scrolls, it misses off 'Total files listed' and 'bytes free' two lines near the bottom. Basically the wineconsole is not being updated 100% correctly and skips some lines. Looking closely at the wineconsole code (by dumping out the screen at each event) I have worked out what is going on, but am not 100% sure about the 'proper' way to fix it. Bugzilla: A Call to Arms

We already had discussion on wine-devel about importance of polishing Wine, making a set of applications to work very well. Cruicial in this process is prioritizing of the issues, work distribution between developers. The companies already have internal testing and bug fixing process. Of course, each company has their own product-specific work, but most of the problems are general for Wine. I suggest to share this work more actively using Bugzilla. Recently there was some work done in cleaning the issues database and it is in pretty much usable condition. To start using bugzilla more actively I suggest following steps: 1) define subsystem/direction owners. The owners will get their system-specific bugs. They won't necessary fix the bugs themselfs, but will have complete picture about all the issues in their subsystems and coordinate the bug fixing. Developers, please let me know your areas of expertese. I can overview Wine applications. 2) more formally define process of bugs handling and use this process. There is no high qualification needed to filter out bad bug reports, duplicates, request users for more information, attach relay trace to the bug, etc, etc. Result - developers will have to spend less time on discussion trivial bugs with users, will have better bug reports to work on, users will be more involved with more active feedback. Some users are very cooperative and some bug reports are really excellent! I see that Tony Lambregts, Michael Cardenas, others do a great work with the Bugzilla database. I'm also going to contribute some time for this. 3) Prioritize bugs. This is, probably, part of (2). Some bugs, while relatively easy to fix provide very big value for the end user. Often developers do not choose such issues to work on, exactly because these issues do not present challenge to them. BTW, I do not see a field "Priority" in the bugs entries. 4) Ask users to submit there problems in Bugzilla. Submitting Bugzilla report allows us to involve users more actively, persist their bug reports. Bugzilla is a more scalable approach than using mailing list only. Of course we still will discuss bugs on the mailing lists, bug big part of communication will be unloaded. There is a lot to do and discuss. For me the goal is to have this process not worse than in Mozilla project. cups support apparently broken

Hello all. Apparently wine's cups support is broken. With our old version of wine, wine would correctly detect the current cups printer, but it couldn't actually print to it. So, you would see the print dialog, but when you hit the print button nothing happened. Now, I have cups installed and a build of yesterday's cvs and when I try to print wine tells me that there are no printers installed and I should "point to settings on the windows start menu, click printers" and add a printer. Hi, I had a problem loading a second program under wine. I called the first program with: wine --winver win2000 pgm1 I input a password and it wirtes a data file, unloads itself and loads a second program. But there was an error every time the second program was to start that send me to the debug screen. So I found misc/version.c line 196 that the default value to wine load a program was WIN31, so I changed it to NT2K. Is there any problem doing this? If not, why is the default still WIN31? Dear all, We are trying to use WINE (22/4/2002 version) to run Notes Client r6 with Chinese/Japanese Input. XIM is started successfully, but in some widgets we could not input Chinese/Japanese. Please find the screenshot here (http://www.thizlinux.com/~leanne/notes.png). We are forwarding a mail (with Chinese) in Notes Client. Chinese can be displayed but NOT input in the mail content area (After "Subject" line). What type of widget it is so that we could fix it? We can type Chinese on "Address" line (listbox). p.s. By the way the cups user manual seems to imply that it supplies both lp and lpr commands. Of course we should probably send jobs to cups via the cupsPrintFile() api but I guess that can wait. Huw.

There's no such thing as a default version ;-) Wine figures it out from the DLLs the program uses if no version is forced. Hmm, come to think of it: Unless we actually pass all wine cmdline parameters (--winver, --managed etc.) on to the wine child process (not sure about that right now, I think we do), the new process won't use the same forced winver value as the parent process uses. Is this a problem ? Should this info be passed to the wineserver to globalize it ? Oh, BTW: I'll rename defaultWinVersion to cmdlineWinVersion. If you didn't enter an incorrect password then please report this error to wine-devel(a)winehq.com. Installation failed, aborting. ###### My box is linux 2.4.18 with slack-current updated. The command was winedump spec dllname.dll -I/dit/to/headers -c -t -D and it was shown to me by Ove Kaaven. I just forwarded it to you. [Patch tested] TB_REPLACEBITMAP

I just tested Marco Bizzarri's implementation of TB_REPLACEBITMAP ( http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-patches/2001/11/0112.html ). It looks like this patch was neither rejected nor accepted at that time. The patch applies cleanly to sources from wine-cvs-unstripped-042902. I can't tell whether it is technically adequate, but at least it significantly improves wine support for Checkpoint's Firewall-1 GUI (FWPolicy.exe), which might be of interest to many people ( see http://bugs.codeweavers.com/show_bug.cgi?id=185 ). -- Pascal
