Updating WineWiki Theme?

Hi everybody, Although my hiatus was longer than expected, I've been making progress with updating the wiki code over the past few days (spring break is a very good thing). My workflow is a bit non-linear so I want to sort my changes into patches first, but fingers-crossed, I'll be pushing them to my Bitbucket account by the weekend. I did want to ask for input on a few things: 1. Should we just keep Moinmoin's search, replace it with the custom Google search, or offer both? 2. How about the icon? I can get the standard WineHQ one to display fine, but I'm not sure about which approach to take. Essentially, do what's simplest for us, or should I make it play well with other themes too? 3. Finally, the credits are currently just text links. In the future though, if Dimi wanted to, we could have a "sponsored by Lattica" banner like the Codeweavers ones on the other pages. After I get the theme together & test it some more on different browsers, I can look into migrating the data to the newest Moinmoin version. -Kyle

I guess this makes sense, because having the clipping region change with transforms would be weird when drawing recursively and changing the transform. I had assumed clipping regions were in world coordinates because most things are, but I didn't really have any information either way.

Crash confuses me

I use a LD_PRELOAD before running wine so that i can debug my application. The library which is preloaded is able to replace system dlsym and from that, other consequence library call. There is no problem until, i put some Detour code(hot patching) into the kernel32.dll.so address space. But the very funny things is this ** THE PROGRAM CRASHES BEFORE MY HOTPATCH IS APPLIED ** so it seems somehow the order of cause and effect is extremely weird and frightening to me. How can a piece of code which is not excecuted be teh cause for errors PRIOR/BEFORE to its execution. And this is surely happening because when i uncomment the Hotpatch/detour lines the problem goes away. here are some lines from the crashs ... err:module:attach_process_dlls "user32.dll" failed to initialize, aborting err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\windows\\system32\\winemenubuilder.exe" failed, status c0000005 wine: Unhandled page fault on execute access to 0x7c9e4cd7 at address 0x7c9e4cd7 (thread 000b), starting debugger... err:module:DelayLoadFailureHook failed to delay load user32.dll.BroadcastSystemMessageW wine: Call from 0x7b83ba92 to unimplemented function user32.dll.BroadcastSystemMessageW, aborting wine: Unimplemented function user32.dll.BroadcastSystemMessageW called at address 0x7b83ba92 (thread 001d), starting debugger... Another thing to notice is that this was tested using wine1.4.1 However it DOES work with wine1.5.10 ... to get something to work for me is not the challenge, its to understand the logic behind why something does not. THanks a lot and I am grateful for any who contributes his knowledge to this problem i am a real NOVICE

Hi, when i look into msvcr100.spec file i find lots of different parameters for the switch (?) -arch . So fare i have seen: arm, i386, win32, win64 and x86_64 . To me it is not clear what is the difference between win64 and x86_64. The same for i386 and win32. What are is the criteria to choose the first or the second? If it makes a difference do i have to distinguish between arm and ... ? Does -i386 and -arch=i386 mean the same? Thank you for enlightening me Stefan

It seems like there's conflicting types for GLhandleARB, one defined by Wine, the other by OS X, on Mountain Lion. I assume that the #define __gl_h_ is a try to work around the issue, but OS X's gltypes.h still gets included. Checking Console.app isn't very useful either. If the user sees this message, then they're already looking at wherever the process's output is going. Running Wine from a shell won't write anything to the console logs. As of Mountain Lion, running it from a GUI app won't either; Apple changed things so that stdout and stderr of GUI apps go to /dev/null rather than console logs. (Only things like NSLog() or asl_log() go to the console log.) Probably it's just best to say that the Mac driver is running in a non-GUI session such as a remote login. -Ken

Making wine default to the Mac Driver on OS X

With Friday's release, I am interested in making the Mac Driver wine's default on OS X. My own immediate motivation is largely so we at CodeWeavers can start testing it as a default internally (which obviously we can do on our own, regardless, if needed), but I figured I'd ask the wider community to see whether it's time in winehq also. My question is how it should be configured from a user perspective. Right now one can set a registry key in HKCU/Software/Wine/Drivers/Graphics with a comma-separated list specifying the driver load order, and the first one successfully loaded will be used. Absent the key, there is a hardcoded load order in user32/driver.c. Right now that is just "x11." Discussing with Alexandre the other day I believe his thought is to make the hardcoded default "x11,mac" in all cases (including Linux). I believe (and I don't mean to put words in his mouth) that his thought is that a user should never have to edit the registry to switch between drivers. The thought would be that in order to switch between drivers, a user must instead create an environment in which all drivers which are ahead of the desired driver in the hardcoded load order will fail to load. I think that in the specific case of "x11,mac" on an OS X box, the thought was to unset DISPLAY if you want to run with the Mac Driver on, forcing X11 to fail and therefore getting the fallback. I just now realized, though, that OS X 10.8 ships with stub X11 libraries which behave badly. If you try to load X11 on a brand-new OS X 10.8 machine, the user sees a dialog box with directions on downloading XQuartz, and the process which tried to load X11 is killed. I hadn't thought of that earlier, but it seems to weigh against using a fallback mechanism where x11 is attempted first in all cases. It means that to get good behavior from the fall-through, a Mac user would be required to download and install real X libraries, then unset DISPLAY. It seems broadly incorrect to me to attempt to load X11 first everywhere and force the user to make sure loading that fails if they want a different driver. I think that if the Mac Driver is to be the default on a Mac, rather than assume the environment will be such that other drivers will fail, it should really just be the first thing wine tries to load. The case of OS X's bad X11 stub libraries is one where it seems fairly onerous for a user to ensure X11 won't load. Wayland isn't here now, but it seems like when it comes it may bring similar issues. I propose an environment variable, WINEDRIVERLOADORDER. I would think we would first use the registry value, then the value of WINEDRIVERLOADORDER, then the hardcoded fallback. I would also propose making the hardcoded fallback differ on OS X and linux, so that a user who does nothing on OS X can have the Mac Driver, but someone who wants X11 can set WINEDRIVERLOADORDER and switch to that without editing the registry. Is that an acceptable approach? Of course, Ken may abhor the idea of having the Mac Driver the default in winehq at this point, anyway. ;)

It really slows down development on my side *not* to have an easily checked w9x system (nor a system for 16 bit tests, BTW). All that I can remember when that issue was raised last time was: 1. It's good not to test incoming patches against w9x behavior, because the time spent adding broken() for those is better invested adding code and more tests for w2k-w7 machines. Agreed. 1' test.winehq.org need no more display w9x test results. I don't care much. 2. Some technical aspects, such as not being able to find Greg's old w95 VM image, or producing a VM image with some soundcard not hanging randomly. But I can't remember an argument saying like "nobody was interested in those w95/w98/w98SE/wME machines, so we dumped them". Currently, (new)testbot doesn't even offer an option to run tests on w9x machines. I'm not asking for that option to be on by default, I'm just begging for it to be present! Thank you, Jörg Höhle

You will want to use accented letters in their authors names. Caolan McNamara Ferenc Wagner Marko Nikolic Every once and a while the GNOME Live website is down with an error on Netscape called “The operation timed out when attempting to contact .” - This paragraph should have a website name. You want to be unbanned in Amaterasu Translations and the DOS ain’t dead forums.
