I have some comments - sometimes you mark as resolved and ask to reopen if the bug still exists bugs with very nice reports. I think this is good approach when you can't check whether the problem still exists or for some obscure applications, but many of the bug reports you closed are short, nice and consious. I think better approaches with these sort of bug reports is: a) try to reproduce yourself - the best approach. Your confirmation in the bug comments is very important for developer who may try to fix the issue. b) if research looks complex - a half a way to solving a bug, you can add comment, smth like "Needs to be confirmed". In both cases bug can be assigned to the component owner. c) ask to confirm without resolving the bug All these approaches insure that bug report won't be forgotten and this can happen if the bugs are just marked as "resolved". Could you try to go through the old bugs you marked as resolved? I already started to do this. I'll leave my comments in the bugs I reviewed. Improving debugging (gdb) support

Hi, I'd like to improve debugging support for Wine, and have time to undertake a larger project. Either I could work on winedbg to match gdb's features, or I could try to make gdb understand Wine better. Given the amount of useful frontends for gdb, it seems wiser to go for the second option. I'd love to be corrected if you think working on winedbg is a better choice. Gdb seems to have trouble understanding the way windows processes run in Wine. If anyone has thought about this, I'd like to know your opinions on a good solution to this problem. Furthermore, it seems useful to make gdb parse the .pdb format, or other debugging information. Winedbg already has a working pdb parser, which I could port to gdb. Feel free to push me in the right direction. -- Tijs van Bakel, ConnecTUX, <tijs(a)connectux.com>

First on my priority list is cleaning up and releasing the Microsoft Visual C project files generator though. One of Alexandre's Makefile changes broke it and I haven't taken time fixing it yet...

Latest CVS build can't find c:\windows\system

Just updated to the lastest CVS (June 4 2002) and I'm getting the following WINE error when trying to run any application: Invalid path 'c:\windows\system' for system directory: does not exist Perhaps you have not properly edited or created your Wine configuration file. Relevant snippets from my wine config file: [Drive C] "Path" = "/windows" "Type" = "hd" "Filesystem" = "win95" [wine] "windows" = "C:\\windows" "system" = "C:\\windows\\system" And from /etc/fstab: /dev/hda1 /windows vfat rw,auto,umask=000 0 0 /dev/hda1 is a Fat32 partition and does indeed contain \windows and \windows\system subdirectories. All lower case. winecheck gives me a "99% correct" score, and reports no problems with "Drive C" (all errors are related to file permission issues on Drive D which is not being used here.) snippet from winecheck output: ----------------------------- checking config file ----------------------------- 003. If you are interested in owning R4, that's fine by me. For what it's worth, from 1993-97 I was a programmer on the team that designed and wrote Notes R4 and R5 (Iris Associates) so I have some knowledge of application internals (although, sadly, no source code.) I'm following the discussion and bug report 466 although I have not been able to test with the latest CVS due to wine config problems detailed in my earlier message to the list. Regards, Dan Schwarz

Lotus Notes application owner

I was under the impression that there already was one, but it looks like I was mistaken. I will volunteer to own the Notes *R4* client, which I regularly use. (I suggest having a different owner for Notes R5.) My employer only recently began providing a VPN access option for Linux, so I've only been back to using Notes with Wine for a few weeks, but it seems to be working very well. The only bug I've noticed is that the left pane of the mail window (in which the "views" are shown) is resized to a zero width when the window is redrawn. -- ======================================================================== Ian Pilcher pilchman(a)attbi.com ========================================================================

Is this a trivial thing to fix? Currently the code simply ends up looking for the proxy in the registry. Everything is reasonable fro IClassFactory but of course IUnknown isn't in there because it should be inherent in the system itself. Bill
