persuading Alexandre with that is difficult, nay impossible.

But you do not have to do that, the solution is much simpler:
Just prove that nobody is using Wine on MacOSX 10.5.
And if the only user turns out to be Alexandre himself then pester
Jeremey to buy Alexandre a new Mac Mini.
