I had mistakenly thought that the testbot ran make_makefiles before 
building. I've sent a patch in an attempt to fix this. I've successfully 
run the install tests with a cross-compiled executable (e.g. [1]), but I 
can resend the patch series with configure changes added if that would 
be preferred.
