I didn't propose that option, I proposed 4. I simply summarized the proposals to clarify things. Looking at Zach's proposal: "so make it default not show, but allow distros to reverse that."
I'd say build the survey in to run on first wineboot, when the directory doesn't exist. Give an option in configure that would enable the survey, but otherwise have it off by default. Or maybe in tools/wine.inf, but does wineboot parse that before or after creating the directory?

Yes, I think that there should be a configure option which is "Enable first run popup". Thus the default state is no pop up. Thus we could ask distros, when building their binaries, to enable this option. And since its not on by default it wouldn't bug any devs building from IGT>
And yes I do think this data would be valuable. Especially for the d3d people who have a very rough idea of what to focus on (from what they've told us at wineconf).
