Wondering what flavour of Windows XP people would recommend for testing on? Is there any benefit to getting Professional over the Home edition?
Or does Home have everything that is needed to be capable of developing and testing conformance tests?
every windows should be good enough. If something differs between Home and Pro, or between XP / 2k / vista, then it is ok to implement any of those behaviors in Wine, since apps shouldn't depend on the exact results.
If you find a concrete app that depends on a specific winver's behavior, and the app doesn't run elsewhere, then this should be documented with a test that checks the Windows version and compares the results. In that case you should also mention which app motivated the version specific behavior. (Most apps that are that way depend on win9x things, do not run on 2k/xp and are pretty rare).
