The patch should be preferable, as I have the same problem on RH8
(freetype-2.1.2). RH9 doesn't seem to be affected (freetype-2.1.3).

The initial problem is not a bug in freetype, so upgrading it shouldn't
be the first solution, and since Marcus's fix works...
