While I think this is a great idea for people who use their apps every day, it still depends on having a bunch of testers.
It would be trivial to have your script killall wine after 5 minutes of it sitting there waiting for you. My main concern was that a seg fault doesn't necessarily mean that the app will terminate. Also, this only checks that apps can launch, not that they are functional in any way. A combination of both approaches would be helpful.
