You are right - it is hiding in plain sight - running "mono"
on linux vs win32 mono under wine, withoout any options,
dumps the brief usage info, and there is one line of difference
between the two:

--mixed-mode           Enable mixed-mode image support.

Thanks and I'll give it a try to see how it feels. I wouldn't
know to look for it if I didn't know it exists.
