The latest CVS shows this error on GTA3. Although it is an improvement since it doesn't crash into the debugger, but instead it just stops. It generated (after a long list of IDirect3D8Impl_CheckDeviceFormat fixme's) this output:

I'm now looking for a game that shows the same output but has a demo for download.
