The lack of any decent copy protection on Linux *is* a problem. There is Shiva but it's quite old and has a crack available for it. The problem is, I don't think there is quite enough demand to spur a commercial development of one (and I fail to see how to make an open source copy protection system without hardware support).
As to whether he can use exeCryptor on a native Linux app, no, I'm afraid that's not possible. It might work in Wine but then you'd have to run the Windows version of this app.
