Should they be set up as a BitTorrent? I have a good internet connection so I don't mind downloading large files but I'm just concerned about the load on your server. If there was a BitTorrent tracker somewhere I'd leave my BitTorrent client running fo the next week.

As I stated before, I'd mirror the files on our server, once they are all online. IIRC Andreas Mohr might also have some space and bandwith to put into this.

...which doesn't mean that putting them into file sharing services like BitTorrent wouldn't help, of course :)

Here's another mirror:
Ehm, are those the final videos? What about the audio volume editing some people wanted to do?
If this is the final version, then I'll move it to a download directory, too...
I just need to know what is supposed to be done...

I've put them up as they are, but if someone could do some editing it would be nice.
Could someone name the files better? for example : Dimi_presentation.avi then we will know who is the presenter and from reading WWN people will know the topic.

That may help.

I haven't seen the videos yet (still downloading) but it looks like the main speaker is missing. No?

Yeah, the time to set-up all the recording stuff, we missed the two first speakers (WRS and AJ). Basically, we wanted first to do streaming ... which did not work because we were firewalled. Then the time to install an open source recording program, we lost the keynote.

I suggest you use rsync or something because the video upload won't be over for another 10 hours.

All the videos are up on the main server, please sync your mirros. MP3s should be up in six or seven hours.

I was thinking the same thing... it seems like a perfect application for bittorrent. I plan on grabbing all of the videos, but I feel bad putting that much of a burden on someone's server. I'd happily leave my bt client running until the demand for them drops.
At any rate, thanks a bunch for making the videos available to the rest of us.

Thanks a lot for the videos.
I got all of them and tried to mirror them to my website but unfortunately it seems Free does not want me to upload files bigger than 80MB (yet I'm supposed to have 1GB of space).
The sound is actually pretty good except for the questions but I'm not sure much can be done about it (or at least I would not know how to fix that). The video is quite grainy, so applying a denoiser can help if someone decides to reencode them (perhaps as part of the sound work). Another solution is to denoise them at playback with:
mplayer -vf hqdn3d xxx.avi
Some appear a bit fuzzy too but again I don't think this can be fixed, the webcam's focus was probably wrong. The other issue I've noticed is that some take a long time to start, almost 10s, at least in my version of mplayer (1.0-pre7-0.0). The ones I'm having trouble with are:
2005_04_30_16_31_39.avi 2005_05_01_08_52_15.avi 2005_05_01_11_12_30.avi
But they play eventually so it's ok. Just be patient if it happens to you.
Finally, for reference, here are the md5sums for the files I got. Let me know if one of them is wrong:

Overall it's very cool to have the (almost) full WineConf video archives, especially for me since I missed part of it. Also it's the first time they are available to everyone.
Many thanks.
