Hello,
I want to bring an issue that has appeared on wine-users to your attention. The issue is basically this: Any time a process in wine tries to execute another process, wine will crash following a call to XOpenIM. For details please look here [1]. I'm sure Leigh is willing to provide any additional info required.
regards, Daniel

Check if any X input server is installed (like what is used to input Japanese with e.g. a US keyboard). In the past I experienced crashes with various X apps (thu not with Wine) because of SCIM. (No idea if the XIM-server or Wine is at fault in this case.)
