Hi Everyone,
Say, I've gotten in a few fairly generous donations lately, and so the Wine fund has a bit of money (around $800, afair).
Now, the bulk of that is marked for embezzlement <g>, but it does leave a bit left over that could go to help Wine.
The question is: how could that money be spent effectively?
I have several thoughts on this, but would like to open it up for discussion.
My suggestions are: * Buy software for proven Wine hackers If Wine hackers are lacking for licensed software, I could buy + ship it to them. My financially prudent side suggests that games would be a great way to do that, because we can buy a lot of games for $800, and only 1 copy of MS Office for the same price... :-/
The trouble with this idea is that the few times I've tried to offer software to Lionel and others they tell me that they have all they need.
* Sponsor Wineconf 2005 We spent about $1500 of the Wine fund sponsoring some folks to travel to Wineconf this year. We could similarly use the funds for the next Wineconf. That suggests saving it for this purpose would be prudent.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments?
Cheers,
Jeremy

Didn't Lionel say in his interview that a new GPU videocard would have helped him get into newer areas?

I like that one. Getting from the US to Cyprus can cost a little :-)

Well, it's mostly that this is a bit of a slippery slope to start sending stuff to some people and not others. And then, this would make me feel obliged to hack on Wine ... and this would not be fun anymore (it's good to be able to not send any patches for long stretches of time without remorse :-) ).
I would say sponsoring Wineconf 2005 would be a better idea (so we could go somewhere exotic (not that St Paul in winter was not exotic in a kinda perverted way for most of us :-) )).
Lionel
PS: and no, do not start to send me stuff to force me hacking on Wine, it will not work :-)

I have volunteered to organize it in Cyprus. I've already started lobbying for that location. After last year's last minute "hey, it's more comfortable in the US" change, I decided that long term preparation for votes, like you do in any self-disrespecting parliament, is the only way to go.
Lionel
So can I count on your vote too? :-D

I vote for France :-)
