new web design takes too much space on left

When working on a notebook computer, I find myself
resenting the amount of real estate taken by
the left hand navbar in bugzilla.

I bet we could shave 20% of that space without
bothering anyone...

The images in the background are big enough such that if you increase
your browser font size up to a certain point, it would still fit. It
would be nice if the bg image can extend outwards according to the
text size. I've seen it on some sites, but not sure what the css magic
is.

I'm done, this design has taken enough of my time.

You will need to generate patches for ALL the sites if you want to 
change it now.
