Hello, I am Saksham. I am pursuing Bachelors of Engineering (Information Technology) at PICT, Pune. I would like to start contributing and GSoC can be stepping stone towards it. I am new to open source community. I went through the GSoC site. I really liked previous year projects and would love to be a part of GSoC this year. I would like to familiarise myself with the code. How can I start contributing?
Hello Saksham,
I recommend to find an area of Wine that is interesting to you, e.g. because you have Windows applications that you personally use and that do not work yet or have room for improvements. Make sure you read through https://wiki.winehq.org/Summer_Of_Code . It states a few requirements for participation and lists some ideas. You are very welcome to suggest your own idea(s).
As a general hint it's helpful to convey that you have given the project and your idea some thought. We will not accept idea applications that just copy-paste the proposal. Likewise, a generic motivation message that could have been sent to any gsoc project is not ideal.
Best regards, Stefan

Hi Saksham,
As Stefan mentioned, check out the ideas page and find an idea you're interested in or propose your own idea suitable for a GSoC project. Then hop over on IRC (#winehackers on freenode) and have a chat with the devs there and/or reply here.
Cheers, Aaryaman
