Hello guys,
after we rethought WineConf and did it at/during FOSDEM for the last two years, it is time for a real WineConf again. We are missing too much our keynote, our governance discussions as well as our hackatons. Also the two full days should give more time for the most important topic aka the hallway discussions.
After two years in Europe the old tradition would call for a session over in USA/Canada but this is not a strict requirement.
Now the most important thing is to find volunteers that would want to host the WineConf. They have the bigger say in the date too, there are two options: - - either in late spring (preferred by me), - - or early fall (preferred by Jeremy)
I have started also http://wiki.winehq.org/WineConf2015 please feel free to add agenda topics to it.
bye michael

I can offer Vienna as a possible location. My former University happily provides rooms for events like this.
The only caveat is that it will have to be in the summer or fall. I won't be able to set things up in the spring.
Cheers, Stefan

I don't know about all the secret conversations on the subject of course, but I assume the lack of other replies to this thread means you'll be hosting this in Vienna in the summer or fall then?

Shouldn't it really be in Lausanne this year? Maybe they have some nice fall colors there ... :)

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of course, but it really comes down to someone volunteering to host. :)

If you won the lottery big time and are inviting us there sure. But Switzerland is $$$, I mean SFR SFR SFR, at the moment. I don't even want to know how much the obligatory Zicke Zacke would cost; the one that Alexandre likes to invite us to.
bye michael

I'm hardly an expert, but I always got the impression from Alexandre that that kind of thing simply doesn't exist in the French part.

I'm pretty sure I burned all of them to the ground.

We were looking for a late spring / early summer proposal and we got none.
For fall we have also Jeremy's White standard Minneapolis offer (or was it St. Paul?).
bye michael

Yeah, though given the choice I'd personally prefer the place we haven't all been to yet.

The offer still stands, but a decision sooner rather than later would be good :-)
Though the way I understood the informal chatter was that Jeremy wants to have it in the States this year again. But even then it would be nice to have a decision about the space-time coordinates soon.

No, I've been having secret conversations to have it in North Korea <grin>.
In all seriousness, I haven't been giving it a great deal of thought. Michael points out that it is about time to head back to the US, and we are always happy to host.
But I worry that we tend to draw fewer people to the US, and I hate to take any energy away from the conference. Also, my son tells me Vienna is amazing <grin>. We can rationalize it by saying that we've only met for 2 days in Europe this time, and it's 4 days in Europe, 2 days in the US, and so that says the *next* one should be over here...
Stefan, would you mind exploring availability? I have to confess a personal preference for fall; my summers tend to get crowded.
Cheers,
Jeremy

Will do. From the top of my head September sounds like a good time. The main holiday season is over (cheap), Universities haven't started yet (we can, but don't have to, get a room a my old school), weather is generally sunny and nice and it is not terribly far away in terms of time.
October and November are options too of course, but we may be limited to hotels as the conference location.
