I spent some time implementing my theme idea to the lostwages devel version of the WineHQ website.
Take a look at: http://lostwages.winehq.org
On the home page, use one of the three theme links. I've made the skinning engine pretty simple so more themes/skins could be added in the future.
I also removed the hidden menus, and returned to the standard view like Francois has been evangelizing. Most of the links go 404 for the moment. But the About page is in as a sample.
Next on my list is to work on using /about/ style URLs instead of page=About get style.
Then I need to port WWN to use the new theme engine (its busticated in the lostwages version).
That's all for now.

One thing I noticed is that the Classic Theme's Text on the word Development in the graphic at the top is the same color as the background making it invisible, therefore making it look like:
Wine HQ
Also, I still say there should be some other color options besides dark red, that color almost makes my eyes melt out of their sockets. >;) I would say add a white wine skin and maybe a champaigne or a mad dog (the malt liquor) skin... ;)

I noticed this with Netscape 4. The logo is a PNG, with the background transparent. But Netscape 4 (and some other browsers) do not support opacity in PNG. To see what the logo is supposed to look like when PNG is supported properly, load up in Mozilla 1+.
I am of a mindset to not support Netscape 4. The whole JPG/Gif issues notwithstanding.

I'll make some skin docs when I'm done. I'm more concerned with the backend code ATM.

Sweet !
Two issues, though: a) what about making menu headlines font +1 ? Would be better for the visually impaired people... b) HowTo ??? Has Wine ever had a HowTo ? (ok, I admit it, Wine even had a damn good HowTo, but it's already quite outdated now, and as we have the Guides now, I'm not sure whether we still need one)

YES! Jeremy seems to love tiny fonts. They suck! PLEASE, do not use fonts below 12pt. I am referring to the left navbar (which is double spaced, to add insult to injury) and the WWN on the right. Please make then 12 or even 14 points, and remove double-spacing on the navbar. That will also make it fit on one screen.

I second that! And third, and fourth, etc. :) Pretty please!

Good stuff. Some comments: -- I like the default theme :) -- menus still don't render right in Kongy 3.0.3: http://www.dssd.ca/bad-konqy2.png -- I am getting more convinced that we should move Development before Documentation in the menu It is vastly more useful. Documentation is like a reference section, it is generaly put last. -- maybe the rounded rectangles are a bit too oval? -- are you forcing a (smaller) font? If so, please try one skin that uses the browser's default font. -- I like the shadow on the screenshot. Cool! -- I still think we should have an "Announcement" box below the "About" box. If so, we can get rid of the 2 boxes to the right.
HTH.

Cool, finally. I played with the Classic theme some more, mainly just to show just how customizable the themes are. I also fixed the IE transparency bugs (by removing the transparency)

Ach mein got! I blame the Konq people, it couldn't possible be MY code. <g>

Up for debate, I'll leave that for consensus.

picky, picky.

Yeah. Seems that Konq is REALLY having trouble with my style sheet. The default theme should have sans-serif fonts. In yours it's serif. More fodder for me to not recommend Konq. Heck, my 2.2 version renders the site beter than your 3.0 ver.

We certainly can do both, I like the quick access and info boxes myself. I doubt that I can be convinced to drop these. They are updated more often than an announcements section would ever be.

But I think we should support Konqy, even if it's buggy. Many people use KDE, and it is the default browser....

Yeah, but this goes against thee automatically picked screenshot. I don't like the idea at all. If anything, we should _manually_ pick a cool shot every 2 weeks say, add the shadow, and put it on the site.

No, no, by announcements I meant News, so the content of the 2 boxes would go there. Plus misc stuff (if any) that has nowhere to go now. Give it a shot man, it will be way cool! :)

Under the very specific circumstances that things look fine with the current cvs of kde3.1 I thend to agree with you :-)

me too , me too, me too
picky, picky.
oops

My default theme is sans serif, I'm only complaining about the classic one
Keep up the good work - and in order to make we won't complain any more, you'll just have to outlive everyone on the list ;->
Ciao Jörg -- Joerg Mayer jmayer@loplof.de I found out that "pro" means "instead of" (as in proconsul). Now I know what proactive means.

I'd be happy with the classic theme if it wasn't for the serif font: Classic != Hard to read In the non classic themes: The headings of the boxes at the right look quite funny when there is not sufficient space to render them in one line.
Thanks! Jörg -- Joerg Mayer jmayer@loplof.de I found out that "pro" means "instead of" (as in proconsul). Now I know what proactive means.
