Hi, I am Sreya Mittal pursuing my Btech in Computer Science at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad.
I am interested in getting started with open-source contributions and looking forward to becoming a part of Wine and Outreachy community.
I am proficient in C. This would help in the work.
I would be grateful if I could get a few pointers regarding how to get started.
Thank you, Sreya
Hi,
Welcome to the community! Have you taken a look at the GSoC ideas page? You can find it here https://wiki.winehq.org/Summer_Of_Code. Take a look at the list of ideas and let us know the ones which interest you the most. Then contact the mentor(s) mentioned alongside that particular idea in order to get started. Make sure to CC wine-devel in your mails, that way other community members who are willing to help will be able to see your messages.
As always, your own ideas are most welcome as well.
Cheers, Aaryaman

Hi,
Thanks! I went through the GSoC ideas and am interested in the following : 1) D3DX9 - Implement missing D3DX9 APIs 2) Tools - Winetest Scripting Interface 3) Implementing XACT sound dlls
I am proficient in C and I think I would be able to do a good job with the project. It would be great if someone could tell me about the minimum requirements(number of patches, or kind) so that I can fulfill that.
Thanks, Sreya

Hi, If this is your first time seeing wine a starting point is to be able to compile wine from git satisfying its configure dependencies. Read more at https://wiki.winehq.org/Developers and its links.

There is no minimum number of patches for the project itself - what we're looking for in the application are signs that you understand the APIs you are trying to implement and have some ideas how to test and implement them.
Please be aware that we require the submission of a non-trivial patch before the end of the application deadline to consider the application. This shows us that you are able to build and modify Wine and can find your way around the source code. Such a patch can e.g. be a test case for an unimplemented API, or extending an existing test, fixing a bug, etc. A simple spelling fix would not be enough for example.
Best regards, Stefan
Hi, Thanks a lot for the advice. I will try to compile the code and send a convincing patch.
Thanks, Sreya
