Hi all,
Institute of Software Chinese Academy of Sciences[1] (ISCAS) and openEuler community are jointly organizing Summer 2021 of Open Source Promotion Plan (OSPP). This project[3] is very similar to Google Summer of Code (GSoC) and Outreachy[4].
OSPP opens to all projects with OSI-approved licenses, and worldwide students. When students finish their projects, both students and mentors will be paid. OSPP committee will process international wire transfers if needed[5].
One interesting point, OSPP is providing three different levels[6], with different awards (about USD 1.8k, 1.4k, 0.9k)[7]. That might make it easier to find projects/students (Thanks to Austin English to notice it)
If we're going to participate in OSPP, we could reuse our GSoC page[8]. Our GSoC history[9] could also be a guide for new candidates. Obviously, new ideas are welcome. If an idea is interesting but too easy for GSoC, please consider sending it to OSPP with medium/low difficulty.
Please send your questions/doubts/complaints/etc to wine-devel. If we're going to participate in OSPP 2021, I will submit the Wine community's application before May 20th (deadline for community).
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated, associated, or endorsed by ISCAS/openEuler.

It certainly sounds interesting. We'll have the same challenge as with GSoC though: No easy projects are left in Wine. The ideas page is rather thin.

The other bit is that they explicitly list documentation work as possible tasks. GSoC ruled those out (maybe this changed; I haven't checked lately). This adds a few (but not many) opportunities for easy, yet useful projects. I don't think this alone is enough to participate, we'll need more useful actual development proposals.

+1, though we might want to revert the GSoC wiki page to end of last year, as that might better suite the OSPP timeline and levels

At least we can re-evaluate the old ideas for suitability.
The trouble there was that the old ideas didn't get us a single non-spam application in our last 2 gsoc years.
Hi, I created a wiki page to summarize the discussion https://wiki.winehq.org/Ospp_Summer_Code, and I'll maintain this page for Ospp Summer 2021 Please share your thoughts about it. Thank you

Did we apply for this yet? The OSPP website mentions May 20th as application deadline for communities, which is fairly soon.
Thanks, Henri,
I've registered us at OSPP earlier today. Automatical reply is
We will process your application within three workdays. Please kindly check your email.
I'm not sure if they'll ask more questions or they give me the final decision directly. Finger crossed
