Well I like it too, except that the tabs have been mangled...
And I also agree with you that it would be much better without all the debugging #ifs.

I was afraid that Outlook Express would mangle something. Should I go back to the attached file version or just do the cut and paste?

The attached version would be OK if you could tell Outlook to avoid the quoted-unreadable stuff; but I don't know if that's possible without having it corrupt things again.

The diff is against the current tree. Your patch of 9/10 has not been commited yet and that is the one tha may conflict.
