standard on free software desktops for instant apply dialogs is to have just a Close dialog, with a Revert button in cases where the user might not be able to undo the changes themselves. For the main window, just a Close button is enough.
That would be inconsistent with KDE,that uses apply and OK buttons, and cancel to not apply and changes and exit. The Mandrake Control Center also works with OK buttons.
Indeed, but they aren't instant apply dialogs either. At the moment the way it's coded makes instant apply optional, but there seems to be consensus here that instant apply is a good thing, and having used it I agree, it makes everything feel a lot more responsive for some reason. It also helps force us into good UI design (at least in some ways).
