a number of apps that wouldve worked normally ..are now failing to load due to this error..

no

loaded fine under a older version of wine...just not the cvs

are the older versions still working ?
did you upgrade your system (kernel for example?) in between ?
do all apps exhibit the same problems
what is your setup...
