I don't think that it's my patch that caused the FIXME to appear. Could you
try to revert my patch and see whether FIXME goes away?

FIXME was added on purpose. It reports a real problem, it just happens
that the problem doesn't affect you too much.

You are right. The FIXME appears with this patch:
