I re-ran configure and forced OpenGL, but I would like to know how to get a non-libpthread version of OpenGL if at all possible..

Well, you can't... It depends on your OpenGL 'vendor'. Some link to pthread, some don't. But well, this warning is mostly obsolete as we did not have any bug reported due to that for a long time now.
