I can't seem to find the slackware package for wine-0.9.8 anywhere else. Hope this is the right place to post this. thank you for your time.

I don't see no problems there. It does work for me. Could you check that this is not the page from your cache/proxy. Also verify that you do have access to http://sourcforge.net itself.
