One of my conceptions of wine is as a stepping stone for users switching over to linux from windows that still only feel comfortable with windows apps or those that don't know what linux apps are available. What do you think about adding a 'Similar Linux Application' link or section to each windows app where applicable that would point them in the direction of the linux equivalent of the windows app and thus help with the transition process? They might not necessarily use the app, but at least they'll be more aware. What are some ideas about this?
This sounds like an excellent idea. How were you thinking this list would be displayed and who would be incharge of which applications were listed there? Once those two questions are answered we can get the support into appdb.

haha I'm a horrible artist, but this is the general idea I'm thinking about for implementing the linux equivalent apps section. Let me know what you think of the idea (not the drawing quality).

Very nice start. So, would just anybody be able to submit a Linux Equivalent app?

I was thinking it would be the same type of process as for submitting a wine app. You have to send a request and then the request is verified. This is to make sure (not that it's likely) that the apps we're linking to are valid and equivalent to the windows app.

As far as that goes I have no "objection" if you want to add the urls to the applications then we can give you administrator rights.
I have added one to microsoft word http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?appId=10

Why not add KOffice or Abiword to the list?
