I can provide trace output, if you let me know what you need traced (ole? dbghelp? oleaut?). It would be nice if Steam could be made to work, so Oliver's D3D work can be tested w/ Half Life 2.

Is it a regression caused by a change in steam or a change in wine?

If it is a regression in wine you should be able to find the patch tha broke it and report it here.

I don't know. I suspect it's Steam's fault, since I read that Cedega ran into problems also, and fixed them. To be sure, I'd have to test older versions of wine... that would be useful for hunting down what broke Warcraft3/Fthrone as well. I'll give it a try over the weekend.
