Multiplayer with Directplay

Hi Michael,

Please can you assist me.

I have succeeded to get Age of Empires working on Mac with Wine but can't
get MULTIPLAYER to work.

I have read that I must: "To use this with multiplayer go to Wine ->
Winetricks, and install directplay."

However, I can't find how to add DIRECTPLAY to Winetricks.

I've also seen this:
$ wget http://winezeug.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/winetricks
$ sh winetricks directplay

But don't know where to type that!! Sorry, but I'm very clueless when it
comes to coding etc.

Please can you assist - my 13 year old son and I will be most grateful as
we haven't played the game since I switched from Windows 4 years ago!

Hi Mike,

I'm not sure if this email should be sent to wine-devel, as this is a
mailing list for wine development purposes, but no worries, I'll entertain
you anyway.

If you installed Wine for Mac via one of the package installers, then
simply opening Wine via the launchpad would open a Terminal window from
where you would type wine commands.

Otherwise, simply open your launchpad and search for "Terminal"
Once that's open, copy-paste the two commands you saw and press
enter/return, hopefully it should work.

Hi,

https://wiki.winehq.org/Winetricks is outdated. It seems like it's using an
old SVN trunk. I think you should follow
https://github.com/Winetricks/winetricks/blob/master/README.md

Basically, change the wget command to "wget
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Winetricks/winetricks/master/src/winetrick...
"

Did you even read that page? It has the correct URL, and has had it for years. I have no idea where the OP got that old URL, but it wasn't from https://wiki.winehq.org/Winetricks.
