I'm not a lawyer and can't speak for the project, but I think trademarks are dangerous and should be avoided.

I doubt it's legal, but more to the point, it suggests a relationship between Microsoft and the Wine Project that does not exist. I find it offensive.

I think something like that is better than current logo, an ugly white- colour glass of wine; anyway WINE has relationship with MS and Windows.

We have SVG versions with color of this logo, so it should be zoomable without being pixelated.

Yes, at final step there is need to SVG version of selected logo, but do you confirm that logo?

The design of that logo implies that the Wine Project is either a subsidiary of Microsoft or officially endorsed by Microsoft, neither of which is true. The design notably leaves out the logos of the operating systems that Wine actually runs on. Using it would look like a deliberate attempt to mislead consumers, which is what I imagine Microsoft's lawyers would be arguing in their trademark infringement lawsuit.

While I can't speak for AJ, I can say from the viewpoint of the Wine committee that there's a 0% change we'd use a logo that contains the Microsoft logo.
A larger version of the current one, however, should be feasible.

That logo is deleted now per https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons :Deletion_requests/File:Wine_bw.png
not all the files on Wikimedia Commons are legal.
I no longer follow this mailing list, please e-mail to my address if there is more talk about this subject, good bye.
This is the scalable shaded version of our logo: http://dl.winehq.org/wine/logos/wine_logo.svg
The current logo. Your suggested logo would never work, as it uses a copyrighted image.
When it comes to logo design you need to design a logo that works in black and white, flat color, and shaded color. A 3D rendered wine glass would not work in all those cases.
FYI: Calling the current logo ugly is not the best way to start a dialog about changing it.

I'm not a graphic designer, I just see current WINE logo is really ugly and it does not have any concept when it is without any text, so I suggested to find a better logo. At least can you change its white colour to become more transparent, like the real glass?
Below cases are good examples for new logo:

YES! this one is really good! I am agree with that, thank you.
That is the design for our sticker swag. It was not intended to be a logo replacement but I am very happy that it is very well received!
I was thinking of bringing up a logo redesign at wineconf this year as part of continued swag discussions, so this sort of kicks that forward.
I personally have no investment in this, however design wise I think we need to think of the website logo in relation to how it would connect to the wine icon. So we would need something that would have a variant that can scale down to those sizes.

I did upload it to Wikimedia Commons:

I think author information is wrong, who created this logo? I also added it to WINE article:
The logo was created by Jana Schmid of CodeWeavers.
