Hi, I am trying to run IE version 4 ( I think ) however I am getting "unhandled exceptions".
When I use the following command "wine --dll commctrl,comctl32=n iexplore.exe" I get : err:heap:HEAP_CreateSystemHeap system heap base address 0x65430000 not available err:font:AddFontFileToList Unable to load font file "/mnt/windows/windows/fonts/desktop.ini" err = 55 err:font:AddFontFileToList Unable to load font file "/mnt/windows/windows/fonts/modern.fon" err = 2 wine: Unhandled exception, starting debugger... err:seh:EXC_DefaultHandling Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x1581e3e4
I also tried to use : wine --dll shell,shell32,commctrl,comctl32=n --dll kernel32,netbios,netapi32,user32=b iexplore.exe but with the same results.
I know how to turn tracing on, but am not sure what exactly is the problem. I've had a go at turning on the traces and got the following : 0807a828:Ret kernel32.CloseHandle() retval=00000001 ret=16013d94 0807a828:Call kernel32.OpenEventA(001f0003,00000000,16013e30 I assume that you had IE running before, right? If this is the case you can easily help Wine developers to fix the issue if you find the patch which broke IE. This is described here: http://www.winehq.org/docs/wine-devel/cvs-regression.shtml
Do you need help with CVS?

Anyone able to help, or make any suggestion ? Thanks, CP
I could IE 5.01 installation successfully with a fake_windows.
step: 1. make a fake_windows in the $HOME/.wine http://chem.skku.ac.kr/~wkpark/kle/wine/dotwine/make_dotwine
2. install some ttf fonts($ wine NEWFNT32.exe;wine corfnt32.exe) wget ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/drg/TrueType/NEWFNT32.EXE wget ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/drg/TrueType/corfnt32.exe

Could you, please, add these instructions to the application database? http://appdb.winehq.com/appview.php?appId=25&versionId=8
Many people will look there for help and will find your instructions useful.

I think... It may useful only for developers :-) Iexplorer.exe can't be used as a browser for now.

No, please don't. As you probably won't be able to modify Notes, I'll do it instead. (NOW, that is !)
That's a *great* description !
Hi Won, Thank you very much for your detailed help. Here are some problems/comments I have on some of the stages :

I had many problems tryingto down load this file from the ftp servers but was eventually successful.

To access this you must go to http://download.microsoft.com/download and follow the various steps to get "IE5 service pack 2". Also while running this exe I got the following problem after successfully downloading all of the relevant ( 19MB !) files : err:win:WIN_FindWndPtr window 10021 belongs to other process err:win:WIN_FindWndPtr window 10021 belongs to other process The installation window briefly appeared ( did not contain anything ) and then disappeared! The 2 error messages seem to appear at the same time. The installation dialog boxes then indicates that nothing has been installed ( or more acurately it shows a long list of items which have not been installed ).
What can I do now ?
Thanks CP Hennessy

I just select *minimum installation*. and uncheck allmost all of them, except the main program.
I test several times with my RedHat7.2 boxes.

now, you download allmost of them, you can re-run with minimal installation option.
What can I do now ?
