Hotel for FOSDEM

Hi Folks, The nature of FOSDEM means that people can stay wherever they like. And the FOSDEM page itself lists a bunch of places, including a bunch of inexpensive options. However, I thought it would be useful to pick a 'default' hotel; that's where I and all the CodeWeavers folks will be staying, so other people from Wine might want to stay there as well. We have chosen the Best Western Hotel Royal Centre: http://www.royalcentre.be/ It's fairly close to the Grand Place, which Wolfram suggested. It is a fair way from FOSDEM itself. But I gather that most hotels are, so we're not unique in that regard. Google transit suggests it's faster on the public transit (30 minutes) than the hotel Mozilla used last year, so it doesn't seem worse than most. We were quoted a rate of 89 Euros per night, and we were told that rate would be offered to anyone else that called. Of course, we're fairly naive, so maybe you can get an even better deal...<grin> You may need to call or email them; when I tried their online system yesterday, it wasn't working. One key feature of this hotel was a bar, which means people have a place to connect. So that's where I'll be on Friday, testing Alexandre's claim that Belgian beers are the best... <grin> Cheers, Jeremy

Could I get a volunteer to help me with name tags?

I'm wondering if someone would be willing to help out with name tags for FOSDEM. The Wine project can pay the costs. I'm thinking of just buying cheap name tag holders, and pre-printing (with a nice logo, of course) name tags for people we know will be there. And then having blank ones (with the nice logo, of course) for guests to our devroom. Any takers? Cheers, Jeremy

FOSDEM talk on tangential topic in wine devroom

Hi, I'm the main guy behind http://win-builds.org which is a project to bring package management and packages _for_ Windows (through cross-compilation) and _on_ Windows (directly). The ultimate goal is to put an end to the compilation and building mess of free software when it comes to Windows; should give enough work for a few more years. I'd like to do a presentation about this project and mingw-w64 at FOSDEM 2014. I know proposals go through pentabarf but I think I need, at least for politeness, to ask here first. The topic is not Wine and I'm not really involved in the Wine community either; the target audience is also probably not so much the Wine community but more general. That said, I still believe a presentation in the wine devroom is appropriate. I was pondering going for a maintrack talk at first but it didn't feel completely right (scale, slight topic mismatch and not really a format I would feel comfortable with). That made me look for a devroom instead. Last year, a windows-only topic in the LibreOffice devroom attracted quite a lot of people who didn't attend the other talks. This makes me believe there can be an audience from outside the wine community for such talks: getting your free software running on Windows or getting others' free software to run on your Windows. PS: I'm on #winehackers as "adrien" so you can ask me questions there if you want. T-Shirts

So the FOSDEM guys suggest that a fun way to show support for FOSDEM would be for us, the Wine project, to make Wine/FOSDEM T-shirts. Anyone interested? I think the WPF could probably sponsor some portion of the cost (and, at the very least, protect any volunteer from potential monetary loss). Cheers, Jeremy
