topic proposal - Full Stack on Wine

Dear folks, I'd like to proposal a short talk on the topic "Full Stack on Wine". "Full Stack" means "full software stack", for example, the attached image is a software stack for Chromium. Chromium depends on several libraries like gtk, sqlite3, libwebp, these libraries depend on some common libraries like cairo, pango, then those common libraries depend on lower level libraries like libpng, glib, finally they depend on a few basic libraries like gcc-libs and zlib. In the plan of Full Stack on Wine, we are thinking about improving the compatibility of thousands of open source win32 libraries on top of wine, from bottom to top, layer by layer. At the same time, we are planing to collaborate with thousands of open source win32 projects, make Wine a useful build & testing & deployment platform for them, establish a win-win for both sides. The idea is inspired by http://wiki.winehq.org/UnitTestSuites , but not exact the same, I'll explain the details in the talk. Thanks for contribution from many people, currently we've successfully build 300+ win32 open source projects on top of Wine (using win32 version of toolchain, instead of cross-compile), with the help of MSYS2 [1]. At the same time, we also made Cygwin almost work out of box on Wine. In the final, I'd like to not only make a call of help, but also proposal some adjustment on the Wine project, to coordinate with some of our partner win32 open source projects, that would bring us to an open discussion. The talk is relative short, about 15 mins. I'd really like to talk 15 hours, but thanks to god my spoken English is so poor so I couldn't ;-) Thank you! Airport cab?

I fly out tomorrow at 7:10 a.m. Is anyone else leaving that early who'd like to share a cab to the airport? (Or if you're leaving that early and plan to take the bus / train, I'd be curious & might join you).

Dinner Saturday

Hi, Just in case anyone gets split from the group: We're going to Melker Stiftskeller, the address is Schottengasse 3, 1010 Wien. The general plan is to take U3 to Stephansplatz and walk about 10 Minutes to the Restaurant. If anyone is desperate to cut down the walking time as much as possible, the alternative is to change to U2 at Volkstheater, go to Schottentor and walk from there. The overall travel time is probably longer due to the train change. fwiw, The minibar is free for business rooms in the hotel, including all the drinks in it too! Sounds too good to be true but I have first hand experience :D

A few more tidbits

The S7 and CAT trains are in the exact same place, but all the signs just say CAT. There are ticket machines down the ramp, if there is a line at the window. The view from the train wasn't great, so the bus sounds like a reasonable choice (although Stefan says it's view won't be any better). H&M sells T shirts for only 5 Euros if you lose your luggage :-). Also, Stefan says that the 'bar' can possibly mean two places; there is a fairly small area downstairs, and apparently a larger area upstairs (which I have not seen) So if you're looking for people, you might check both places. Michael, I think it's just me and Aaryaman here so far, and I'm out with jet lag now :-(. I gather that Alexandre comes in with jet lag of his own any minute now. I think it is likely that an expedition will set out tomorrow between 8:30 and 9:00 am to visit the Schönbrunn Palace. Cheers, Jeremy

Warning on trains and Google

I think this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I thought it worth repeating: Google apparently does not have a relationship with the Vienna transport folks, so Google maps transit routing is pretty bad. There also appear to be a plethora of choices of ways to get from the airport to the hotel. Two, count 'em, two, trains, and a bus, without even getting to taxis or other options. I stashed what I learned via Google on the WineConf2015 page. (My plan is to take the OBB S7 train to Wien Mitte, and then the U3 to Westbahnhof and the hotel). Cheers, Jeremy
