[Bug 1807] New: Starcraft / Brood War B.Net version checking and registry

by Wine Bugs

http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1807 Summary: Starcraft / Brood War B.Net version checking and registry Product: Wine Version: CVS Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P3 Component: wine-misc AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com ReportedBy: cloud1086(a)hotmail.com I am using Wine 20031016. Sorry in advance if wine-misc is not the right category; it seemed to me to fit several (wine-help, wine-directx, etc), so I put it in here. First, when starcraft is installed, it plays an introduction movie on first run. Following this, it is supposed to refrain from playing this movie unless requested to do so on the in-game menu. I noticed that the movie played for the first 3 or 4 times I loaded starcraft, then stopped playing (which is good, but it should have only played once). I made no changes, either to config or file permissions, during this time. Next, the problem that's been bugging me the most - my inability to play online on Battle.net. When I installed starcraft brood war, I downloaded BW-110.exe (the latest v1.10 patch) and applied it successfully to the game. Re-running the patch shows a game version of 1.10.0.1, and says it's already the newest version. However, when I try to log on to Battle.net, it says that it is unable to detect my application version, and disconnects me. My real Brood War CD that I bought accidentally got a huge scratch, so I am using my burned backup (I did buy the StarCraft BattleChest and I have a real, non-revoked bnet cdkey). However, this *shouldn't* be the problem, as I know many people who play with backup CDs. Any suggestions, or is this a bug that needs to be fixed? Thanks! -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee.

[Bug 1805] New: InternetCrackUrl incorrectly sets dwUrlPathLength

by Wine Bugs

http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1805 Summary: InternetCrackUrl incorrectly sets dwUrlPathLength Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-binary AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com ReportedBy: jan_lists(a)sporbeck-family.de Hi, During some application testing, we discovered that WinE does not correctly mimic the WinINet function InternetCrackUrl. The real WinAPI sets the dwUrlPathLength member of the URL_COMPONENTS structure to additionally hold the extra info of the given URL if the extra info is not requested as a separate component. Although this behaviour is not well documented by the Win SDK, it is for instance implemented on WinXP, Win2000 and WinME and therefore might be considered to be intended by Microsoft. The following lines of code demonstrate the problem: LPCTSTR lpszURL = _T("http://www.myserver.com/myscript.php?arg=1"); URL_COMPONENTS url; // call 1: crack out url path and extra info ::ZeroMemory(&url, sizeof(url)); url.dwStructSize = sizeof(url); url.dwHostNameLength = 1; url.dwUrlPathLength = 1; url.dwExtraInfoLength = 1; ::InternetCrackUrl(lpszURL, 0, 0, &url); // dwUrlPathLength is 13, holding "/myscript.php" // call 2: only crack out url path ::ZeroMemory(&url, sizeof(url)); url.dwStructSize = sizeof(url); url.dwHostNameLength = 1; url.dwUrlPathLength = 1; ::InternetCrackUrl(lpszURL, 0, 0, &url); // now, dwUrlPathLength should be 19, holding "/myscript.php?arg=1", // while WinE still sets it to 13 OK, it is of course no great deal to write code that correctly runs on real Win systems and on WinE (2-3 lines did it). But programers who rely on this behaviour will for example wonder why their applications don't transmit any HTTP GET parameters when they call HttpOpenRequest with lpszObjectName set to the URL path component returned by InternetCrackUrl... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee.

http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1795 ------- Additional Comments From dclark(a)akamail.com 2003-25-10 14:57 ------- This is true for virtually every program a user compiles and installs. Almost always the installation is done as root, and there are very few users that actually audit the source first. We all go on the basis of our trust of the source. Wine does not present present any special risks in this regard, and there is no need to treat it differently from any other compiled program, and long as it is always *executed* as a normal user. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee.

[Bug 1798] New: Keyboard focus to terminal, not the game

by Wine Bugs

In Wine (I used wersions from 2003-03 to 2003-10, with Win98, WinXP and Win2000 emulation mode) menus aren't displayed properly: they are too short (only two items shows), and they doesn't have 'submenu marks'. by Wine Bugs

http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1620 ------- Additional Comments From alexander.janssen(a)gmx.de 2003-25-10 12:42 ------- Now that was strange; i disabled the video mode extension. From XF86Config-4(5x): Option "DisableVidModeExtension" "boolean" This disables the parts of the VidMode extension used by the xvidtune client that can be used to change the video modes. Default: the VidMode extension is enabled. Not sure if that was the right thing, but i tried anyway and included: Option "DisableVidModeExtension" "true" Well, now something weird happened: The first time i started the program in question (Marble Blast Demo) a window from the program actually appeared (instead of that wine immediately dropped into the debugger) and complained about some missing files; allright, that is something which is a problem of the program and not of wine. I tried again, then the error appeared again. The program never started again. Weird, uh? Not reproducable. And dumb me didn't save the debugging information. Is it worth trying to reproduce that behaviour? This is strongly not recommanded for an alpa release. Moreover, Windows programs could then cause some security problems. I think the installer do not need to require "root" rights. For example, I created an "install" group on my system. This install group can modify the "/usr/local" tree. Moreover, I could give rights by hand when "wineinstall" ask for them. As a fix, you could simply display a warning such as: "Use root user for a simplier installation.
