It probably is incorrect (since I don't understand the code I'm copying). But it's enough to make Firefox run, at least. It goes away once the death animation is done, or if I look away so that it is not on the screen. This happens for any magical effect (my main character has a reflect damage shield, and it happens any time I get attacked). This doesn't happen in third person mode though. I think it might also be the same thing as the solid background (which is the same colour as the skysphere) when the inventory window is visible (the background is meant to be dimmed and desaturated). (See the applications screenshots section.)
