I tried using the keyboard, but that was unsuccessful. I attempted safe mode, but that still did not work. I even installed directx 9.0 march 2008 distribution. It mentioned that I have a GeForce graphics card when it asked me if I wanted to run in safe mode. I actually have an ATI Radeon X1050 graphics card. Since switching to OSS, the toolbar icons seem to appear every time... even after deleting my ~/.wine directory and starting over. Ghosts? ;-) I installed TiMidity and ran it with "timidity -iA", which creates four Alsa sequencer ports. Wine sees the ports and populates the OSS "MIDI Out Devices" list with them. Choosing one of those ports via "Setup -> MIDI Devices quick setup..." in Composer enables playback, which is flawless. I have just tried to install Call of Duty (wine 0.9.58 under Kubuntu AMD64 7.10) and that message was shown again. But I noticed that the files where correctly placed under the correct directory and I could start the game normally.
