[Bug 12302] Lord of the Rings: Shadows of Angmar unplayable due to high lag

The game is unplayable under Linux for Ubuntu 32 and 64-bit, and Mandriva 32 and 64-bit, using any wine version more recent than 0.9.44 (the earliest I've tried.) The same physical hardware and network connection is capable of playing the game with no lag under Windows XP, XP64, and Vista 32 and 64 bit. The linux install was even tried using the physical LOTRO installation folder from the XP 32-bit install, to no avail. There's no packet loss when I ping and traceroute the physical servers, from any operating system. The problem really seems to be in the game engine. I just repeated it on my geforce7 and there I receive a pixel format without depth and stencil just like on Wine. Again I seem to receive the first pixel format available that matches the criteria. I did some basic testing on windows and it appears that on windows (depending on I guess the driver) you can indeed receive a depth + stencil format for this 'bad' request. It appears that ChoosePixelFormat returns the first format which matches the set requirements. Because the first format which matches the requirements has depth + stencil (this can heavily depend on the driver though) a driver can return that. So you could say that it is a bug in the game as it should really ask for what it needs. Likely they didn't notice it because (most?) windows drivers return what they need anyway. I'm not sure what to do about this.
