As of 1.1.0 (or maybe some earlier version) Wine does not need to register those DLLS anymore. It suffices to put those x3daudio1_1.dll and xactengine2_4.dll in system32 (for the original game that is!) x3d to get it start and xactengine to get Audio. Sample rate still needs to be set to 48000 tho. There are no interesting fixmes or anything for clues. CPU usage is quite high.
