On most systems, the attached test program plays .mp3 files ok, IIRC. It ought to on Wine as well. What is it? - native mciqtz is able to play .mp3, Wine's is not? Lei, are you sure a native MS-W plays .mp3 OOTB? Or were some extensions installed? - Picasa install is broken, it should install e.g. QT as it contains a .mp3 player; then Wine would play the .mp3. - Wine should include a .dll so that it can play .mp3 via the MCI, at least on systems compiled with libmp3 or similar.
