So the recipe is: rm -rf ~/.wine wine msiexec /i python-2.6.2.msi /qb wine pywin32-212.win32-py2.6.exe ls ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/temp/ and notice how it's filling up with little temp files; each one represents one retry of something sh winetricks win2k You could probably set win2k mode beforehand, it's just fun to watch it work after the fact like that. So something changed since then is causing the graphical glitches, as for 1.19 and 1.20 crashing the game, thats a separate bug that needs reporting.
