When running the Install/Uninstall control panel applet from GNOME menu (Applications->Wine->Wine Software Uninstaller) I get a "Program Error" (see screenshot attachement). When running the same command from a bash shell ($wine control appwiz.cpl), I get an exception: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x20014d78 (thread 0009), starting debugger... I will attach the entire report. When running just the Control Panel from the command line, I can open the Install/Uninstall control panel applet. I have tried this with a clean wine setup (i.e. rm -rf ~/.wine). According to the wav file header written to out.wav, windows sometimes configures the hardware to use 44100 Hz and sometimes 48000 Hz. This depends only on what is playing inside Windows: as you said, it picks the highest sample rate of the currently playing streams. I was surprised, too, when seeing a header with 44100 Hz in it.
