For me, using the Wine stable 1.2.3 using the ESound driver results in full audio and gameplay capabilities other than voice input. Using ALSA under 1.2.3 results in the same crash as 1.3.31 also. Intro, movies, and gameplay sound are all working using ESound. Please reinstall your game." I don't know if there is actually a problem with the install, or if that's just a generic error. [Bug 28921] Battlefield 3 crashes on installation

The game then appeared to be installed, but crashes on startup.
