Perhaps it can be fixed, but it would take a lot of work to try that. I'm curious, when an issue like this is analyzed, is the criteria just whether it runs smoothly on the developer's PC, or is CPU/GPU utilization actually included in testing? Because when this problem would still exist, it might not show on the most contemporary hardware (or the person currently testing is less critical of smoothness). I ask, because what Matteo said seems like an structural thing that perhaps needs to be fixed, regardless of this particular case with Starcraft. The problem happens with 8600gts and 9800gt with non-free drivers with or without d3dx9 isntalled via winetricks. This problem didn't happen with radeon 4770.
