The problem appears when gdi text is drawn with font rotation *and* display context rotation. The problem do not appear when either font rotation or display context rotation is zero. The application uses CreateIndirectFont to set a fixed size font with optional set rotation and draws the text with TextOut(). The display context rotation has been set with SetWorldTransform(). We tried to find a test case application, but where not able to reproduce the problem outside the application. They are probably related so I'll describe them all here. One program which shows these problems can be downloaded from http://cd.textfiles.com/infomagic/imagic4pak5/disk3/Miscellaneous-Utilities… Run ebot_einstall.exe then click Next to show the license agreement. The agreement is in a text field/box with a scrollbar to the right. First issue: The view is initially positioned at the bottom; it should be at the top. (The flashing cursor/caret at the end of the text is also present on Windows. It seems Wine sets the initial view position so the caret is shown, whereas Windows does not?) Second issue: Move the mouse pointer outside the window and click to de-activate it. Move the pointer back over the ebot_einstall window (not over the text box) and click to activate it. Notice how all the text is now highlighted; it shouldn't be. Third issue: Run ebot_einstall.exe and click Next. (At this point, the contents of the text field are not highlighted.) Click and drag the scrollbar knob upwards. Notice how the text field immediately moves to show the top of the document, and the view position remains there as you move the knob up and down. If you release the mouse button when the knob is half-way down the scrollbar, it jumps back to the top. Fourth issue: After doing the test in the third issue above, move the mouse pointer so it's about 3/4 of the way down the scrollbar. Click the mouse button repeatedly. Notice that the text in the box pages down each time, but when the scrollbar knob is under the mouse pointer, clicking again causes it to jump back to the top. (On Windows the knob does not move in that case.) Thus clicking over and over causes the view to cycle down a page then back to the top again and again. Fifth issue: On Windows, when you page the view up or down by clicking in the scrollbar above or below the knob, the view moves by one line less than a page. For example when paging down, the view moves so the previously-lowest visible line becomes the uppermost visible line. On Wine, the view moves by a whole page each time. Sixth issue: On Windows, pressing the Page Up or Page Down key causes the view to move by a page (less one line as mentioned above). In Wine however, pressing those keys causes the caret to move. Press PgUp/PgDown until you're roughly in the middle of the document. Then press PgUp/PgDown alternately. The keys HAVE been created (if you try to create it again, you get the error message "File exists"), but are not visible. There are MANY keys that I see in the system.reg file that I don't see in regedit! The problem at least existed already in Wine 1.4 (Ubuntu), and still exists in 1.6 (Mint Maya). To reproduce Step 1. With nothing using wine, run regedit and create a .pdf key in HKCR. Step 2. Close regedit. Step 3. Still with nothing running wine (so that the registry has been completely close), run regedit again. You will not see the .pdf key, but it does exist. The same thing is true for any keys entered via "regedit importkeys.reg". This changed after this commit: http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=commit;h=4094ff025675a14e7572d975d… before this, the input box was even more broken, but the glyph was better - there was '×' (multiply) sign. Was is most evident is that the last character(s) is(are) not canceled. I attach a vertical concatenation of 3 screenshots: the first is the state before hitting backspace: I typed "abcdefghijkl" and added an inline image, the second is after hitting backspace (I cancel the "g"); notice how the last "kl" are not correctly canceled and the image is not moved to the left and the third is how it should have looked. No error message is displayed while hitting backspace (it complains about IME all the time but I think it's no big deal). I have seen this problem at least in versions 1.0.1 (under Debian testing, Ubuntu hardy and intrepid, both 32 and 64 bits) and 1.0.13 (Debian testing 64 bits). The situation is even worse under Ubuntu intrepid (32 bits OS, Wine v1.0.1) as text disappears as soon as it is typed (Esc redisplays it briefly). I can live with the image (visible at the end of the line) not correctly positioned after backspace (it seldom occurs), but the last character not canceled is a real (visual) pain. I can test anything you wish and I understand programming/debugging. Thank you for any help. However, when one tries to jump to some other note, by selecting an element on "All notes" list, the content of the currently displayed note is not changed (only note's header is being updated - information on note's creation date etc.) Only when you double click on given note element from your notes list, a pop-up window with that note's content/text shows up, but the note cannot be edited. Viewing it using winhlp32 from Windows 98 under Wine shows a similar rendering issue, so the cause most probably lies elsewhere. They both render the text incorrectly, but differently. Italic text does not render properly. View the attached license.hlp file in Wine winhlp32. In the "4. SAMPLE CODE" and "5. REDISTRIBUTABLE COMPONENTS" paragraphs, the second instance of "Microsoft Systems Journal" is supposed to be rendered in italics (followed by "(MSJ)" which is not italic). Bug 7520 may be related to this.
