I have tried quite a lot of wine versions, from 2.0-rc2 to 2.8 staging, all of them have the same problem as OP. But I have a nice situation where I can compare couple of systems :) I have one which actually works, that is Phenom II 975 BE + nVidia 1050 2GB (nvidia-375 driver) + Wine 2.0-staging, works w/o problems. Other is Ryzen 1700 + HD7850 1GB (mesa, latest from git - padoka) + Wine > 2.0, does not 95% of tries, there are very rare cases when it starts, but then clicking in pre-actual-game stuff, it crashes. Sometimes it spits out something like "err:seh:setup_exception_record stack overflow 832 bytes in thread 0087 eip f73dd8f0 esp 027e0ff0 stack 0x27e0000-0x27e1000-0x28e0000". Somehow I felt that forcing Ryzen to lowest freq possible gets me a little further but that may be misleading, as I still can not play the game. In common - they are both Ubuntu 16.04 up-to-date stuff. I'm open to do any type of debugging, patches, etc., since finally I have a decent computer where I can compile stuff fast. When some settings are changed, they are stored in Documents\Bayonetta\system_data file. If the file is created, starting Bayonetta for the next time fails, the game hangs after being launched. The file itself appears to be correct (same as the one the game normally creates). Workaround: *delete system_data file *make config directory read-only System info: *kubuntu 17.04 *GTX960M, Nvidia Prime *clean 64bit prefix *Steam version of the game (with D3DCompiler_43.dll placed next to the game binary) *wine-2.8 was used with CSMT enabled in order to workaround bug #42911. *wine-2.8-staging shows similar behaviour -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Using wine 2.8 staging the game installs, loads and plays perfectly without any modification to wine. On the other hand, when connecting to BNET the UI interface appears without any text, unless I wait 2-3 minutes. Whenever I change menus I have to wait another 2-3 minutes for the text to appear. This issue is not exclusive to Wine as there are people reporting this issue on Windows/MAC machines in the BNET forums. I have another machine, running Windows 8.1, where I can play multiplayer flawlessly from a USB drive. Bizarrely, I run into the same issue if I start the game from a copy in the machine's HDD - menus without any text. On another machine running Windows 7, I have no trouble playing from either the USB or the HDD. Every time I load the game on the Windows machines, a popup appears asking if I want to add the game to the Windows firewall.
