In particular there is the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key (or RunOnce?). Ideally such a tool should use that rather than having to invent a new hook. I remember there being multiple error messages, at least some of which were non-fatal, and I don't think that advapi32 patch fixed more than one of them.
