The dynamic scenery in the main menu turns black so that only some objects (cars) can be seen. I have to remove the 'VCONFIG.DAT' file from the game's configuration directory (which resets the game video preferences) in order to restore the game to a working state. Reverting commit 5f1cbb1b85e7d92b6c783a32ae85ca2902296481 fixes the problem for me.
