TeraTerm sets ReadIntervalTimeout to MAXDWORD and then calls ReadFile asynchronously, and if there's pending IO it waits 1 second for the overlapped struct event to be signalled. If the signal is received, it processes the received I/O, else continues on and will perform another ReadFile. This is the code snippet: if (!ReadFile(cv->ComID,&(cv->InBuff[cv->InBuffCount]), InBuffSize-cv->InBuffCount,&C,&rol)) { if (GetLastError() == ERROR_IO_PENDING) { if (WaitForSingleObject(rol.hEvent, 1000) != WAIT_OBJECT_0) { C = 0; } else { GetOverlappedResult(cv->ComID,&rol,&C,FALSE); } } What's happening in WINE, is ReadFile returns non-zero with ERROR_IO_PENDING and the WaitForSingleObject times out. The asynchronous read *does* complete after the timeout, but by that point the application has given up and moved on. I initially thought the application was at fault, because it should retry if the wait times out. However, in the documentation for ReadFile it points to documentation about COMMTIMEOUTS (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/winbase/ns-winbase-commt…) which says the following: A value of MAXDWORD, combined with zero values for both the ReadTotalTimeoutConstant and ReadTotalTimeoutMultiplier members, specifies that the read operation is to return immediately with the bytes that have already been received, even if no bytes have been received. To me, that means Wine ought not to be triggering an asynchronous read when the comm timeout parameters are set as indicated above. I coded a simple fix, which is in NtReadFile, if avail_mode is TRUE return success even if no bytes were read. See attached patch. To make sure that the bug happens make sure to swirl it around a couple of times. ( A Swirly if you will ) Attached I also noticed this when running winamp manually at startup. This may be related. but then I move winamp and it disappears I don't get any more error messages. So I'm not sure. I have some interessting results. Maybe this is fixable? I'm sure the problem sits in the GDIPlus DLL Short summary: builtin: some menus lags really hard (very low framerate, 2~3 + input lag), all textures are visible native: normal framerate in all menus, but some missing textures (plain white spot where the textures should be) builtin (Wine) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Probably the reason for the heavy lag? Only using builtin gdiplus. fixme:wincodecs:JpegDecoder_Frame_CopyPalette (0x...,0x...): stub fixme:gdiplus:GdipCreateBitmapFromGdiDib (0x2002a60, 0x6b10000, 0x6578c8) - partially implemented Basically a stub and a partially implemented function. Maybe the game requires a better GdipCreateBitmapFromGdiDib implementation or the JpegDecoder_Frame_CopyPalette function. I don't know. NOTE: The JpegDecoder_Frame_CopyPalette fixme doesn't appear with the native gdiplus. native (Windows) - winetricks gdiplus ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ No lag there, but now some textures are missing. Instead of the texture which should be there, there is only a plain white spot. The 'generated' texture files are empty files (0 byte). You can verify this by youself easily: the cache folder is in the game folder. ($GAME/cache) This is the fixme which is spammed in the terminal when using the native gdiplus, installed using winetricks. fixme:bitmap:SetBitmapBits Unhandled partial pixel The other 2 fixmes from the builtin version are completely gone. Far Cry 4 (which requires at least a 64-bit Windows 7 prefix) fails to call a bash script on launch: Can't recognise 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry 4\Support\Software\GEFirewall.bat /silent' as an internal or external command, or batch script. Sure enough, calling it manually (even without the /silent argument) results in the same error: $ wine cmd.exe /c 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry 4\Support\Software\GEFirewall.bat' Can't recognise 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry 4\Support\Software\GEFirewall.bat' as an internal or external command, or batch script. At the moment I can not say whether this is due to a change in wine, or because winsupp.exe has been updated (the version reports now v3.61, in the earlier report it was 3.55 it thing.)
