Usually, the second tab does not have this problem, and some actions trigger the header buttons to be redrawn, but they get overdrawn again at once. I tried to nail down the problem by vastly expanding RelayExclude to the 500 topmost function calls, an excerpt of the resulting log is also attached. The first time trying to run Powerpoint, the splash screen appears briefly, then Powerpoint just shuts down. The second time, a dialog box appears with the message "PowerPoint failed to start correctly last time. Starting PowerPoint in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start the program. Some functionality may be disabled in this mode. Do you want to start PowerPoint in safe mode?" If I click yes, the splash screen appears briefly, then Powerpoint shuts down. The third time, a dialog box appears with the message "PowerPoint failed to launch in safe mode. Do you want to start Detect and Repair?" If I click yes, it just shuts down. This means tests that just do computation (such as shader compilation) should still succeed, but tests that want to access a real GPU will find that either there is no VkDevice at all, or there is a VkDevice but it's only software rendering (lavapipe). It seems like vkd3d already has some partial handling for this: run_shader_tests_vulkan() skips itself if a VkDevice cannot be created. (An older App DB report using wine 3.3 mentions the same problem and fixing it by installing d3d9.) There is no console output indicating a problem in that area (recreating the test with wine 3.3 gives plenty of d3dcompiler error messages; perhaps they have been silenced since then?). Since the other d3dcompiler related bugs I checked all seemed to have d3dcompiler error messages I opened this new report, though it very likely still is a duplicate.
